I know a lot of y’all have been waiting for this; MY UBERVEGAN UPDATE (the crowd cheers)! It’s been so long since my last update (about two months ago) and a lot of things have happened in the meantime though. I might as well start from the beginning.
One of the first things that I did after the last update was that I coined the term “ubervegan” (yup, I know, it’s a little self-obsessed but if more people decide to become healthier and practice this I want to at least get credit for being one of the first people on the diet).
The main thing that happened in my life that led to such long postponement of updates was me moving and having to take care of my sick mother (long story). I don’t think any of y’all would disagree with me in saying that family comes first though. Sadly, during the whole moving and caretaker processes in my life my ubervegan diet tended to focus on rule #1 a lot; There was barely any food around that was ubervegan approved and me not wanting to die of starvation had to eat them (right?).
This whole process lasted until the first week of December where I said enough was enough and decided that I would stop abusing the rule (I had forgotten about the “this is purely for survival means part”) and re-stick to the actual ubervegan plan.
And… this lasted for about two weeks. 🙁 This lasted only two weeks because of… rule #2. See, outside of writing/lifestyle design I’m a krump dancer (seriously) and a photographer (I have a camera). This combined with the facts that 1- all my best friends are either dancers or photographers and 2- it’s Christmas season, led to me constantly being in the “eating meat/dairy with friends” position (give me a break, I was barely home).
But, once again, my body yelled for me to stop this immediately (yes, my body yells at me, yours doesn’t?). So, for a while I kept wondering how to modify the rules without ruining them, which is more difficult than it sounds because I still believe that they are great rules. Until it struck me; limits. The rules had no limits as to how abused they could be. So I decided to add to the rules a little bit:
Ubervegan Rule #1- If you have nothing else to eat around you, and there is no way of attaining these items, then it is okay to eat outside of the ubervegan dietary plan. This is purely for survival means and to not be extended indefinitely. Limited to only once per week.
Ubervegan Rule #2- If eating meat/dairy and anything non-ubervegan is in direct correlation with having fun with the people you care about, then it is allowed. Limited to only once per week.
See, originally I was abusing them into the 3-4 times per week limit, which is just… madness. But, with this limit (followed properly) I can call myself “Ubervegan” and not feel like I’m lying to anyone (although I was still following the ubervegan rules, it felt as if I wasn’t because I was eating outside of the diet so many times).
On the blog post side of things, I decided that I will update on my ubervegan diet only once per month. Updating once per week would defer me from concentrating on far more important content (like the issue of patience perhaps). On top of that, I will not be listing all the food I’ve eaten. This is stupid and overly time consuming; But I will update you all on the foods that I ate that were outside of the ubervegan diet (keeping track of what you eat is one of the only ways to actually keep the diet).
That’s basically all that happened with my ubervegan diet up until now. Summary: I spent two months abusing the loopholes in the ubervegan rules and I felt bad about it enough to change.
Parting words: COUSCOUS IS AMAZING!
