A lot of good can be done if people just replace ‘people, men, women, &c.’ for ‘culture’ in their vocabulary. Ex. “I love black… culture.” “Man, sometimes I can’t stand white… culture.” “Wow, you really like asian… culture.” “I hate m… male culture.” “Wom… female culture, right?” “You talk like a whi… someone raised in a white culture.” “You don’t act like a gir… someone raised by female culture.” It’s the word people really mean to use anyways.
There are good and bad aspects to every known culture, and thus to everyone raised in and by those cultures. When you use ‘culture’ you’re giving the conversation enough room for someone to say, “You know what, I can’t stand that part about my culture too.” When you point at people instead of the cultures they were raised by you starve the conversation of common ground to build a rapport off of because everyone is too busy defending themselves.
