There are two books that absolutely reconfigured my thinking about the world and understanding of history and how we&#039;ve come to this point: 
1) The Gift by Lewis Hyde - the first part especially that goes into the history of usury and how we moved from gift economies to exchange economies.
2) My Name is Chellis and I&#039;m In Recovery from Western Civilization by Chellis Glendinning. Systems Theory/ how human societies&#039; original split from their &quot;primal matrix&quot; of nature over time led to where we are now.  But more amazing than that sounds... It took me 6 months or so to recover emotionally and psychologically.]]></description>
